The Zulu nation carries with it a mystique and grandeur that has fascinated world travellers for centuries. We are fortunate in being able to offer a glimpse into a community that still practices some of the age old rituals and lifestyles.
The Gordon and Ndlovu families first met in the 19th Century in what may possibly have been less than happy times, and the association of subsequent generations in this rural area has led to a spirit of trust and co-operation between them, that makes this experience possible.
This community comprises less than 200 people who live in an isolated area bounded on three sides by sheer cliffs , and only accessible by a winding mountain tract which meanders through bush and thornveld. They have been excluded from worldly pastimes for time immemorial, and as a consequence have retained traditional and family values.
Here you will be able to enjoy the singing and dancing of the children, quaff the famous Zulu beer that stimulated King Shaka’s warriors, consult a traditional healer (witchdoctor) and be spectators to their daily routine.
You will learn more about Zulu history and leave with a sense of satisfaction at seeing the last vestiges of a fast disappearing way of life. On this tour, there will be no queues of jaded tourists, as it is only available to guests of Overstone Gardens with the permission of the Ndlovu community.
